X-TRANSBOTS MX-44 GRAVEDIGGER > REVIEW

X-Transbots continues to evolve as a third-party company, and their latest entry, MX-44 Gravedigger, shows how far they’ve come. Designed as an homage to the G1 Constructicon Scavenger, this figure captures the classic look while adding modern articulation and improved engineering. It’s not perfect, but it’s another strong release that solidifies X-Transbots’ growing reputation for quality and innovation.

The packaging is clean and professional, with sharp graphics and a striking image of Gravedigger posed confidently in robot mode. The artwork is stylized but still representative of the product inside, and the black background gives the box a premium feel. A window into the personality of the character is given through a quote on the side, and the blueprint style line work adds a nice G1-inspired touch. It’s collector-friendly, well-designed, and fits in perfectly with the rest of the lineup.

MX-44 Gravedigger comes with a generous number of accessories, including a combiner hand, multiple guns, alternate face pieces, a gold trumpet (a fun nod to the ’86 Movie), and the usual tech spec card. All accessories are molded cleanly and feel solid. The purple cannon is especially impressive, and the inclusion of combiner parts builds anticipation for the full Devastator set. It’s a satisfying assortment that offers both play and display options.

In robot mode, Gravedigger looks fantastic. The proportions are solid, the joints are tight, and the classic green and purple colour scheme is vibrant without being overbearing. While the sculpted details are a little on the bland side lacking some of the panel lining or mechanical intricacies seen on other figures it doesn’t hurt the overall look. The figure’s clean lines and cartoon accurate styling actually contribute to its cohesive aesthetic. My main critique remains with the hand design: the fingers still feel awkwardly sculpted and the inadequate hand to arm fixing, an issue that has appeared in past X-Transbots releases. While disappointing, it’s a minor flaw in an otherwise well executed robot mode.

Transformation is straightforward and not overly complex, which is a nice change of pace compared to some other third-party figures. Everything locks together well in vehicle mode, and the excavator looks the part with working joints in the arm and a generally sturdy build. The paint (or lack thereof) and sculpt carry over nicely, and it’s clear this was engineered with functionality and durability in mind. No concerns about plastic stress or weak tabs, everything feels built to last.
The quality of the plastic has clearly improved over previous releases. It feels solid in hand, with no warping or thin sections, and the joints move smoothly without being loose. It's reassuring to see X-Transbots making strides in quality control and design consistency. The figure feels safe to handle, transform, and pose without fear of breakage.
X-Transbots MX-44 Gravedigger is another solid entry in their growing lineup of Masterpiece-style figures. It’s a faithful update to a beloved character, with modern engineering, good plastic quality, and a fun transformation. While the hands and detailing could use refinement, those minor issues don’t overshadow the overall package. I’m looking forward to the completion of their Constructicons and ultimately their take on Devastator. This is a great figure and a promising sign of what's still to come.
