FOUR HORSEMEN: GRAVEYARD SKELETONS > REVIEW

The Four Horsemen’s Graveyard Skeletons set is a standout release that captures exactly why the studio has earned a reputation as one of the best creators of high-end collectible action figures. From the moment you first see the packaging to the time you have the figure posed on your shelf; the set delivers in almost every way a collector could hope for.

Packaging

The packaging design is clean and thematic without being overdone. The artwork reflects a grim, almost cartoon-ish tone, with subtle gothic elements. The box keeps the figures safe and secure, while still allowing you to admire them and the accessories before freeing them. Unlike the standard Mythic legions packaging, this packaging is not resealable. However, that said, once you have the figures out, I doubt you’ll be wanting to put them back in again.

The Figures

The skeletons are superbly sculpted. The bony frame feels both realistic and stylized, striking a balance between authenticity and fantasy. Details like rib cage curvature, vertebrae structure, and the subtle weathering on the bones give the figure an aged, eerie look. The proportions are well thought out, avoiding the “too cartoony” pitfalls of other skeleton figures on the market. What makes them stand out from the Legion Builder 2 Skeletons, is the grey monochromatic paint finish. Evoking feelings of the old Universal horror movies of the 1920’s & 30’s.

Accessories

The set includes a solid selection of accessories, from weapons to heads. The weapons include; spears, swords & shields and carry that same gritty medieval feel as the rest of the line. Swap out heads range from a Vampire skull to a Pumpkin head and two ‘Skull’ masks. Also included are a wide selection of swap-out hands, all with their own unique look and use.  But what makes this set (and others in the line), shine are their modularity: the body parts and accessories are interchangeable with other Mythic Legions figures, expanding the play and display possibilities tremendously.

Quality of Materials

The plastic used feels sturdy and durable. Given that skeleton figures are inherently thinner and more fragile looking than bulkier characters, the material strength is crucial and here the Four Horsemen deliver. Joints feel tight but not brittle, and nothing about the figure suggests fragility, which is impressive for such a lean design.

Paint Applications

Paint work is subtle but effective. The bones aren’t simply molded in an off-white plastic; instead, they feature washes and shading that bring out the sculpted detail. Small touches of grime and darker recesses help create depth, making the skeleton appear as though it really has clawed its way out of a graveyard. Weapons feature a matt metallic finish that avoid looking toy like, adding to the realism.

Articulation

The articulation is surprisingly robust for a skeleton figure. A ball joint for the head & torso, and rotating pins in the shoulders, elbows, hips, and knees allow for a wide range of expressive poses. The torso and head articulation work especially well for dramatic, eerie stances. While not quite on par with some modern hyper articulated lines, the figure more than holds its own, and the articulation never feels compromised by the skeletal design.

Overall Look and Realism

On the shelf, the Graveyard Skeletons exude presence. They look like they’ve stepped out of a dark fantasy illustration, managing to be creepy, imposing, and strangely beautiful all at once. The blend of realism and fantasy makes them equally suitable for display alongside traditional medieval figures or more supernatural characters.

Comparison to Legion Builder 2 Skeleton & Final Thoughts

Compared to the Legion Builder 2 Skeleton, the Graveyard Skeletons feel like an evolution. Although identical, the sculpt appears sharper, mostly due to the paint work. The Legion Builder 2 remains a great army builder, and the Graveyard Skeleton stands as a solid way to build upon the Skeleton ranks.

As part of the larger Mythic Legions line, these figures reinforce why the brand is beloved by collectors: consistent quality, imaginative world building and figures that reward both play and display.

Final Verdict

The Four Horsemen Graveyard Skeletons set is a firm recommendation for anyone who loves skeleton figures, mythic fantasy aesthetics, or high-quality action figures in general. It is one of the finest skeleton releases to date and a must have for Mythic Legions fans.
